Happiness and Wellbeing

Happiness matters. We firmly believe that our students achieve excellent results in all that they do because they are happy at school.

We have a good focus on changing the long-term culture of a normal school, and embedding an ethos where mental health is regarded as the responsibility of all.

Indian Excellent School can:

  • Show commitment to promoting mental health as part of school life
  • Improve the emotional wellbeing of their staff and pupils
  • Ensure mental health problems are identified early and appropriate support provided
  • Offer provision and interventions that matches the needs of its pupils and staff
  • Engage the whole-school community in the importance of mental health awareness
  • Capture the views of parents, pupils and teachers on mental health

Feeling successful contributes significantly to being happy, and, perhaps more importantly, happiness is the key to success. Happiness benefits our performance, health and relationships. It has been linked to better decision-making and enhanced creativity, as well as academic attainment and pupil behaviour. Happier people are more likely to make a positive contribution to society and help others – as well as being healthier and living longer.

A sense of inclusion and compassion underlies all that we do. We provide a happy, secure and lively environment where each Student will flourish and foster individuality, confidence and enthusiasm.

Our Wellbeing Programme is designed to provide our students with skills such as positive thinking, emotional resilience and self-efficacy, so that as well as making the most of the good times, they can also cope with life’s challenges, overcome learning barriers and manage social pressures. Covering topics such as mindfulness, exercise, healthy eating, teamwork, kindness and the importance of sleep, the social and emotional wellbeing of our students is at the heart of all that we do.

When parents are asked what it is that they want most for their children, the majority reply,

‘I just want them to be happy!’
